We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to provide strong financial governance and leadership across the organization. The role will focus on strengthening financial controls, compliance, risk management, treasury, systems, audit, and overall financial integrity.

Position Purpose

The Head of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership and ensure that the organization's financial operations are well controlled, compliant, efficient, and aligned with organizational objectives.

The position will work closely with senior management and relevant internal and external stakeholders to strengthen financial governance, safeguard organizational assets, manage financial risks, and continuously improve financial systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Governance & Controls

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the organization's financial governance framework.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls, policies, procedures, and approval mechanisms.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place to safeguard organizational assets and resources.
  • Identify financial control weaknesses and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Promote a strong culture of accountability, transparency, and financial integrity.

2. Treasury & Cash Management

  • Oversee treasury operations and effective cash management.
  • Monitor liquidity requirements and ensure appropriate cash management practices.
  • Oversee banking relationships and key treasury processes.
  • Ensure appropriate controls over payments, receipts, bank reconciliations, and cash handling.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and liquidity risks.

3. Financial Planning, Budgeting & Reporting

  • Oversee the organization's budgeting and financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Provide strategic guidance and review of annual budgets, forecasts, and periodic financial plans.
  • Review financial reports and management information to identify key trends, variances, risks, and areas requiring management attention.
  • Ensure effective budget monitoring and financial accountability across departments and projects.
  • Work closely with the finance team and budget owners to strengthen financial planning and budget management.
  • Ensure financial reports and management information meet organizational, statutory, contractual, and governance requirements.
  • Provide senior management with relevant financial insights to support informed decision-making.

4. Compliance, Risk & Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, regulatory, contractual, and organizational requirements.
  • Maintain effective financial risk management and mitigation mechanisms.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the organizational risk register from a financial perspective.
  • Strengthen mechanisms for fraud prevention, detection, and investigation.
  • Ensure appropriate financial documentation and audit trails are maintained.

5. Audit & Governance

  • Lead and coordinate statutory and other external financial audits.
  • Act as the key finance focal point for external auditors and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely follow-up and closure of audit findings and management recommendations.
  • Provide senior management and governance forums with advice on financial risks, controls, and key financial matters.
  • Support management in strengthening governance and assurance processes.

6. Financial Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee the effective use and continuous improvement of financial systems and ERP platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, digitalization, and process improvement.
  • Strengthen financial workflows to improve efficiency, transparency, and control.
  • Ensure appropriate controls over financial data and system access.
  • Promote integration between finance systems and wider organizational operations.

7. Financial Oversight & Strategic Advisory

  • Provide senior management with independent financial advice on major organizational decisions.
  • Review financial information and highlight significant financial risks, trends, and areas requiring management attention.
  • Support management in assessing the financial implications of new initiatives, investments, contracts, and business decisions.
  • Provide financial oversight of major projects, contracts, and income-generating activities.
  • Contribute to organizational financial sustainability and long-term resource optimization.

8. Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Lead and develop the finance team and strengthen professional capabilities.
  • Establish clear accountability and performance expectations within the finance function.
  • Promote continuous learning and professional development.
  • Strengthen financial awareness among non-finance managers.
  • Encourage a culture of integrity, collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Education & Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification such as CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including significant experience in a senior finance role.
  • Strong experience in financial governance, internal controls, audit, compliance, treasury, and risk management.
  • Experience managing finance functions within a complex organization with multiple projects, activities, or revenue streams.
  • Experience with project-funded or grant-funded organizations will be an advantage.
  • Strong experience with ERP/accounting systems and financial process improvement.
  • Proven people management and stakeholder management experience.
