Job Overview

This posting covers ARC's Data & BI function in a single opening, spanning exactly two levels — Data & BI Associate and Data & BI Lead — with placement determined by demonstrated experience through screening. The function designs, builds, and governs data and business intelligence solutions across Microsoft's analytics ecosystem for both client-facing and internal engagements. Every member, at either level, is expected to be equally fluent in conventional data engineering and BI development and in AI-assisted delivery — Claude AI, ChatGPT/GPT platforms, GitHub Copilot, and Microsoft Copilot within Power BI and Fabric are treated as standard working tools, not optional extras, regardless of seniority.

Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities — Apply to Every Level

Data Architecture & Engineering

• Design, develop, deploy, and monitor ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, Databricks, SSIS, Snowflake, or AWS Glue.
• Develop complex transformations, data cleansing, and enrichment logic, and implement incremental loading and change data capture (CDC).
• Ensure data lineage, metadata management, and pipeline monitoring, logging, and error handling are in place across systems.
• Work across cloud data platforms — Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or equivalent — configuring storage, compute, and security, and applying cost management and performance tuning.

BI & Analytics Development

• Build interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI, and design, publish, and maintain semantic models (e.g. Power BI datasets, SSAS Tabular models) for business users.
• Implement row-level and object-level security in BI solutions, and optimise report performance and user experience.
• Define and follow BI design standards, visual consistency, and documentation, validating reports against stakeholder requirements before release.

AI-Enabled & Automation-First Practice

• Use AI tools — Claude AI, ChatGPT/GPT platforms, GitHub Copilot, and Microsoft Copilot within Power BI and Fabric — as a standard part of daily work for data modelling, DAX authoring, pipeline debugging, and documentation, not as an occasional aid.
• Use CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent) for data and BI deployments, and apply automation to routine ingestion, transformation, and monitoring tasks.

Data Governance & Quality Assurance

• Support and follow data governance standards, naming conventions, and metadata management — including tools such as Microsoft Purview — as defined by the Data & BI Lead.
• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and exception handling mechanisms, and maintain compliance with regulatory frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, local privacy laws) in day-to-day work.
• Proactively monitor data pipelines to ensure refreshes complete and operational reporting stays current, escalating failures promptly.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Work directly with client stakeholders to gather, understand, and translate business requirements into data and BI solutions, including running data discovery workshops.
• Own the SDLC cycle for assigned work end-to-end, communicating timelines and budget clearly between clients and internal teams.
• Serve as a point of contact for business users, providing responsive support for report usage, adjustments, and issue resolution, and keeping the Data & BI Lead updated on engagement status.

Additional Responsibilities — Data & BI Lead Placement

• Define and implement the overall Data & BI strategy and roadmap, aligning with business goals and client needs, and prioritising projects across day-to-day operations and long-term improvements.
• Design end-to-end enterprise data and BI architecture using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, SQL Server, Power BI, Azure Data Lake, and Purview, and evaluate Azure services for scalability, cost, and compliance.
• Own the data governance framework — naming conventions, metadata standards, row/column-level security, and regulatory compliance — that Associates are expected to follow.
• Act as the primary technical contact for client stakeholders on strategic matters, presenting architecture proposals and handling escalations related to data quality, performance, or security.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the Data & BI Associate team, conducting code reviews, defining skill development plans, and supporting Microsoft certification goals (PL-300, DP-203, DP-500) across the team.
• Track pipeline reliability, refresh performance, and BI adoption metrics, and lead root cause analysis and modernisation initiatives for existing client environments.

Qualifications & Experience

Required — All Levels

• Minimum 3 years of experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or a related discipline.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, required at every level.
• Hands-on Power BI development experience, including DAX, semantic modelling, and security implementation.
• Practical experience with at least one ETL/ELT platform (Azure Data Factory/Synapse Pipelines, Databricks, SSIS, or Snowflake/AWS Glue).
• Working experience with at least one cloud data platform (Azure, Snowflake, or AWS).
• Demonstrated, practical fluency in AI-assisted tools (Claude AI, ChatGPT/GPT platforms, GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot) — weighted equally with technical Data/BI skill in screening at every level.
• Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills — weighted as heavily as technical ability in our evaluation.
• A Microsoft certification (PL-300, DP-203, or DP-500) is a strong plus at hiring but not a hard requirement for Associate placement; certification is treated as an active development goal supported by the Data & BI Lead once onboarded.

Additional — Required Only for Data & BI Lead Placement

• 8+ years of overall Data & BI experience, including proven experience leading a data and BI team.
• At least one Microsoft certification (PL-300, DP-203, or DP-500) held, or active progress toward one, is required at this level.
• Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale Azure data architecture, including Synapse Analytics, Data Lake, and Purview.
• Proven experience defining data governance frameworks and compliance programmes (GDPR, HIPAA, or equivalent).
• Track record of managing strategic client relationships and handling executive-level escalations.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring team members and owning their progress toward Microsoft certification goals (PL-300, DP-203, DP-500) across the team.
